I didn't see a better category for this topic, so... I'm putting it here. I was at KLSU from 1986-1989, and during that time I got to see quite a few bands at The Chimes. The great KLSU Nights really come to mind. So I thought I'd make a list of the bands that I remember seeing - but I'm sure there are plenty that I'm forgetting! Hopefully some of you can help me remember, as well as enlighten me to some of the other bands (which I did not see) at The Chimes over the years... anyway, here's the list I was able to come up with off the top of my head... Alex Chilton Royal Crescent Mob Soul Asylum End Over End (from Dallas) The Daylights (also from Dallas) 86 (from Atlanta) A Picture Made (from Lawrence, KS) Plan 9 (and I think they were there on Halloween one year) Marcia Ball Lung Overcoat Kilkenny Kats (from Athens GA) The Reivers Electric Earl and The Electrons The Windbreakers (I believe they played there the night Jenni and I were introduced... LOL) There were plenty others, I'd sure love to see this list grow. As you guys probably know, The Chimes is still there (food is still VERY excellent) but they no longer have live music... I went to their website today (http://www.thechimes.com), to see if they had anything about the history of the place, and the many live music performances that took place there over the years... but they did not. I wrote The Chimes General Manager (Doug Felton)about this, who told me that they had originally considered it for the website but declined to do this since they no longer have live music. He told me that he would pass along my request to the owners - hopefully they'll change their mind. Barry |

All right, I'll reply to my own post... I remembered another one. Chris D. and the Divine Horsemen The Black Problem I could start another thread, bands we remember who played at The Bayou (R.E.M., The Fleshtones, The Shitdogs, Snatches of Pink, Das Damen, Lower Chakras...) I'm really straining here. Popped that muscle in my brain, trying to remember - that's all I can remember for now. Barry |

I remember seeing fIREHOSE with The Black Problem at The Chimes. Here are some bands I saw at The Bayou: The Meat Puppets (twice?), Glass Eye, 86, TSOL, Thelonius Monster, Tabula Rasa, Shot Down in Ecuador, Jr. I'm sure there were more, hell, there had to be more bands, but that was 20 years ago. Don't forget that disco down Highland Road, where Edward Ka-Spel and Severed Heads opened for Skinny Puppy for two different shows. |
