I learn about new music mostly from the 'net. There isn't any good indie radio in San Antonio. And don't even get me started on the pathetic record stores here. I spend way, way too many hours listening to new stuff at Aquarius Records. New music I'm enjoying lately includes M83, Iron & Wine, Elope, Mum, Isobel Campbell, Rachel Goswell, The Album Leaf. I have about a million hours of live Robyn Hitchcock stuff to keep my occupied, too. His new album comes out in September, too. Woot! As for old stuff, I'm on a Badfinger and Kinks kick. I'm trying to find the old LPs at decent prices -- amazing what those Badfinger LPs are going for nowadays. |

Get a chance to see Robyn @ SXSW? I went a bit reluctantly because for some reason I've been kinda tired of him lately--I think it was the best time I've ever seen him! He was really "on". |

Nah, I blew it off. I honestly don't have the patience to put up with the SXSW crowd anymore, or the prices. I'd rather just sit in front of my stereo and play records for myself. I did hear it was quite a performance. Robyn has really been on the ball recently. He's recently married and pretty much always in a good mood. And I *cannot* wait for his new album, Spooked. If the sessions he did in Nashville with David Rawlings and Gillian Welch are included on this record, I think we're all in for quite a surprise. |

Did you see him on the panel, refraining from making mincemeat out of Charlotte Martin? Did you see the Seattle Hoot at that Mexican restaraunt with Ken Stringfellow and John Wesley Harding (another client of mine). And yeah, his own set was pretty fucking great too. But my best recent Robyn experience was here in Nashville at the Bluebird - typically, ick. But on this night, wow. It's not that unusual to see some pretty cool people out and about so I wasn't that surprised to see Gillian Welch and David Rawlings in the audience. But they joined Robyn on stage for the encore as his "band" - Gill played bass and Dave played a gretsch. Robyn sang Gillian's "Miss Ohio" - fantastic. Apparently he did his new record (or some of it) here in town at their studio. Cathy Hendrix Nashville Tennessee |

Unfortunately I missed his panel--it was the same time as mine. This Gillian/Dave collaboration sounds like it could really be great--I always love the English take on American country music. |

i've been riding a wave of memories all wrapped up in my old records. i recently installed my turntable and McIntosh TUBE AMP gear (gene!) in my office so i could revisit some of my old favorite records after having had everything kinda inconveniently stored for 10 years or so. I would imagine all those records would be pretty predictable for anyone who knew me then...Wire, Recommended Records compilations (those hand made covers are so cool) Bongwater, XTC, Opal...i could go on and on with revisiting lately. Isn't it lovely when you listen to an old record and suddenly you can almost feel present (complete with emersion in the emotion of that time in your life) in a situation that occurred years ago and that you had forgotten all about until you heard it again? Recently the albums that have gotten more than one spin that have come out in the past year or so include Ima Robot, Miss Kitten, Audio Bullys, NEW RADIOHEAD album and loretta lynn...there are at least a few others i can't remember right now but i'll wish i had mentioned them. Most of what i have bought lately is unlikely to make it into long term heavy rotation. I get a lot of free stuff from major labels....95% is terrible. I'm all ears if anyone has any suggestions! |

Post subject: | I'm chillin......... |
Today was one of those days where I didn't ever think I'd be back home again. From painting a mural on the YMCA wall to an aerobics class, then the grocery store........I'm horizontal on my couch listening to this amazing compilation cd (Hear Music. An introduction to your next favorite song). There's the Jayhawks, Paul Westerberg, the Go-Betweens, theFruit Bats and more..... I want to get everyone this site a copy of it. It's mellow, perfect for chillin on a rainy day-- I love each and every one of you! jeana machine |

Still listening to net radio at work, plug in; build webs all day…..you got to love it. Just picked up Kalahari Surfers - 80s, Rain Parade - Explosions in glass Palace, Eno - Here come the warm Jets (remastered). A bit of nostalgia made me get them, so it is all this sites fault. |

i'm going right to my record collection to go get those kalahari surfers records for a little listening session. i totally forgot about that band. i actually tried to get in touch with them while i was at A&M back in 1989...to no avail. they had such a unique sound and a "michael moore" sense of how to artfully reveal the truth. I remember the semester doing my overnight shift..i must have played "safety seat" and "township beat" 10 times each. thanks for that one scott! |

Jeff, okay you have to learn to burn em to cds... none are avaiable anymore. Except in a "best of" but even that is hard to find. some new stuff coming out soon see: http://www.homeoftrance.com/display_cat.asp?mainID=1844 also the site: http://www.kalaharisurfers.co.za/ |

Check out http://www.needledoctor.com/ -- a good place for all of your turntable needs. We must keep our turntables alive -- we are the last generation to truly appreciate the LP. I have four turntables -- I just can't resist buying the things. |

I've been playing The Wrens' Meadowlands for the last time before taking it out of rotation, for like five months. But the bands I've been really excited about most recently are the Soviettes and the Thermals. File them with Stellastar, but their parody is even more sincere. |
