Post subject: | From Beulah to Bollywood. |
Listened to a lot of Bollywood film music the past few years (and some Punjabi pop singers). Listening mostly to the band Beulah right now ("When Your Heartstrings Break"). Still like the older indie-rockers I always liked (Superchunk, Pavement, Guided by Voices, etc.), though everything get's old. David Garza is someone whose music I never tire of, though. His new EP ("Ill Troubadour") is available free on his web site (http://www.davidgarza.com). Other stuff I've been listening to of late: Paris Combo, They Might Be Giants (their kids CD :"NO!"), Pizzicato Five, Swan Dive, Mitch Hedberg (R.I.P. Mitch)... |

Ahh, Brother - a man after my own heart. You've listed a lot of my faves (there is not a song ever created that is catchier than "Twiggy Twiggy"), not to mention that you did my old show, Saturated Neighborhood! We saw Beulah a couple of years ago and liked them. Alas, they broke up. I listen to Paris Combo a lot. If you ever get to see them live, DO! They are extremely tight... some of the best musicians I've ever seen live. Plus Belle has the best voice. If I could sing, her voice would be the one I'd want. -Jenni |

I'll second Jenni's comments about Paris Combo... they were amazing! They came to the "House of Blues Parish", which is a little more intimate club in the French Quarter. Come to think of it, that's also where we saw Beulah. Me, it's pretty much been Stereolab and the Beatles lately. I grew up with the Beatles - I remember when the White Album first came out and also remember my brother forcing the record player to go backwards to hear the hidden message ("Turn me on Dead Man") in Revolution #9... So, I'm back into them now. Don't think I played much Beatles when I was at KLSU, they had so many good unknown songs (as well as the known ones) that deserved more airplay on my shows. Anyway, great to meet another Paris Combo fan. -b |
