Jim Engster was in a truly horrific hit-and-run car accident about two weeks ago near Napoleonville, LA. The guy who caused the wreck got away, but fear not -- authorities are hot on the trail of a white dude driving a white pickup truck. Should be easy to find, que non?
Jim fractured his neck and suffered other injuries, and almost completely exsanguinated due to a deep gash across his head. In short, he very nearly died, or worse -- his C2 vertabrae is fractured, a la Chris Reeve.
But unlike Superman, our Jim can indeed wiggle his fingers and toes, and although battered, he is cheerful, will be on the mend soon and is expected to make a full recovery and get back to embarrassing David Duke and resuming his other normal activities in time.
He is bolted into one of those halo frames worn by people who have broken their neck, and although he is now out of mortal danger, he will remain in the hospital for hard-core physical therapy for about another month.
He is at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge and, for now, is in room 361 on the physical therapy inpatient unit. I know he will appreciate hearing from any of the old gang.
The number at OLOL is 225-765-6565.
