It is my sad duty to tell you of the passing of WLSU/WPRG alum Ricky Stocker. Ricky's time at the East Stadium studio complex predated most of the folks on this board, but he was a force in getting the station returned to the FM airwaves in the late 70's.

Ricky had another important connection to WPRG/KLSU, as he started the company from where the station received Baton Rouge traffic reports.

Ricky always had a warm spot in his big heart for the LSU station, and I will miss him. Funeral services are at 2pm Sunday Feb 4, '07 @ Rabenhorst downtown (Baton Rouge).

I'm sad to learn of Ricky's passing. Unfortunately I seldom check in except around the holidays, so I missed Paul's post about the funeral back in February. I remember Ricky well.

I just found this board a few days ago, very saddened to hear of Ricky's death. I have not been to Baton Rouge in a while so I have lost out on a few connections. I knew Ricky from grade school/high school and worked at WPRG/KLSU with him. He was a great guy. Full of tremendous energy and as Paul Burt mentioned, he made a valuable contribution to bring KLSU to the FM airwaves. He will be missed.

This is really sad- Rick was a great guy. I worked with him at Louisiana Network after graduation... he was Jim Engster's producer on Louisiana Live. I was curious a few years ago as to what he was up to and had a hard time finding any current information, and knowing he was in poor health in 2000, I feared the worst. He had a bad heart and had suffered at least a few heart attacks.
Anyway, thanks for passing along the information; I live well out of state and wouldn't have heard of this otherwise.

I just found this site while looking for any sort of Baton Rouge live music calendar from the late 70's. I am deeply saddened to learn of Stocky's death. He had a dream back then of satellite music and could have made of go of it, but people just didn't think it would ever work. Now look at Sirius and XM....

Thanks Paul for posting this. I had seem some time back that Dr. D had passed. He was my academic advisor in the mid to late 70's. Had a serious 'fro. I remember how proud he was when he brought in a package of jingles that sounded too corny for JBO, they never got used....Ah Youth!

Glad to see the Zia the Cat is still on....I recall Dr. Jazz and Zia really bringing it back then with jazz buffs astounded at what our little station put out in those days.

Take Care....
