yeah, was it alligator records on highland road? meredith used to work there...anyhoo, one day this guy with a beard was asking the clerk if they had any bootlegs of stevie ray vaughan (this was looong before he was A) popular and B) zonked out of his mind on the cocaine and C)his brother's band sold out bigtime). i just happened to have this awesome set he did in paris, and mentioned it. i thought it was just a guy, but it turned out the more i talked to him and remembered who was a'playin' at the assembly center that nite, the lite lightbulb clicked. we got to talkin' more, and he said that if i brought the tape by, i could deliver it to him backstage, etc. i show up there with some guests, and this is bimbo heaven..where did they all come from??? still have no idea. but gibbons was so unbelievably nice and spent an inordinate amount of time talking to us schmoes, when all these hot cajun and texas wimmens were parading around us for his attention. anyway, it was the eliminator tour, i believe, and they had the laser, the fuzzy guitars, etc., and the show was great!! he'd asked me if i had a request, which was of course 'beer drinkers and hellraisers' = and they dedicated it to me at the encore. unbelievable shit. flash forward about 8 years: i am drinking at local nashville dive the goldrush, and this clean-shaven fellow comes up to the group i am with and buys a round for all. i am like wondering who the hell this guy is with topsiders, preppy clothes, khakis, glasses buying us drinks, but am not complaining! i got to talking to this guy, and he mentions the tape of SRV i gave him..well, after the Topp show, i'd given it to a lot of folks, so i still couldn't put it together. then this recording engineer in town comes in, and he's like, "why is billy gibbons buying ya'll's drinks??"...i nearly did a spittake. silly silly me.
